Billy Connolly’s Route 66 DVD was released last week here in the UK and I’m sure it will sell a lot of copies because the actual TV series on ITV1 was surprisingly very good. It featured Billy Connolly travelling along the world famous Route 66 across the United States, with lots of interesting stories and interviews along the way.
I always enjoy Billy Connolly’s travel documentaries anyway because he is always very funny, and there is always a real chemistry between him and the people he meets, and this latest documentary certainly disappoint on that score.
The whole trip is just under 2500 miles, starting off in Chicago and finishing in Santa Monica, and Billy travels this entire journey himself. As I say, he meets lots of people along the way, whilst also giving you information regarding the history of the places he visits.
My only criticism of this program was that it was a little too short. Considering the length of the journey, I feel he could easily have stretched the series to maybe 8 or 10 one hour episodes instead of 4. The constant ad breaks were also quite annoying as well.
However if you buy Billy Connolly’s Route 66 DVD, this obviously will not be a problem, and you will also get to see 40 minutes of additional footage that wasn’t shown on TV.
So if you have ever dreamed of travelling along the infamous Route 66 yourself, or have maybe already been there and want to reminisce about some of the places you visited, then I can highly recommend you check out Billy Connolly’s Route 66 DVD. It really was a excellent series, and one of the best travel documentaries of recent years.
