Gynecomastia surgery is quite common these days because many men want to get rid of their man boobs for good. Lots of people try to get rid of them by trying to lose weight and do lots of exercise, but this is not always successful, and so their only real option is to have gynecomastia surgery.
Many people think that gynecomastia, where men have overdeveloped breasts, is a condition that is simply brought on by being overweight. However whilst some overweight men will develop man boobs, the fact is that hormonal and other bodily issues can cause this problem. In fact I read an article recently that listed 76 different causes of this condition.
It can affect men of all ages, including young boys as they go through puberty, however it is more likely to become a problem as you get older, which is why you often see old men with larger than normal male breasts.
It is not that big of an issue for a lot of people, but it does definitely have an impact on some men and can cause a lot of depression and anxiety about their appearance. So for these people gynecomastia surgery is definitely worth considering, although it is always recommend that you talk to your doctor and try and find the underlying cause and possible treatments before you reach this stage.
This is quite a straight forward operation (although all operations obviously carry some risks) and can be performed on men of all ages. The procedure involves removing excess fat (and excess skin in some cases) to leave a flatter and more natural looking chest. For the vast majority of patients the procedure is a complete success, however there is a very small risk of infection, excessive bleeding, scarring, pigmentation and breast asymmetry.
The best candidates for this operation are men who have tried losing weight and exercising without success, and who are otherwise healthy. It is not recommended for heavy drinkers or people who regularly take certain drugs or steroids as these can all contribute to the problem, so surgery will probably be a waste of money.
The cost of gynecomastia surgery can vary greatly depending on the severity of your condition. However as a general guide you can expect to pay upwards of $3500, and sometimes as much as $10,000.
The procedure can be carried out under a local anaesthetic with sedation, or under a general anaesthetic, and you will normally be allowed to go home either the same day or the day after the operation.
You will generally experience pain for several days after the gynecomastia operation, and you may have to wear some kind of protective cover for a while, but the swelling and bruising will soon start to go down. It will generally take at least 3-6 months before you start to see the final result.
The results of gynecomastia surgery are permanent and many people are delighted with the finished result of their smaller and flatter chest. However there are other options available such as Gynexin, for example, which is a natural supplement that has been shown to reduce the size of man boobs in around 90% of men, but ultimately it is up to you (and your doctor) to decide which treatment is best for you.
